Thy Kingdom Come

By | Nov 15, 2017
The world is crying for the coming of a competent Ruler. In Matthew 10 Jesus called His disciples together and instructed them to preach that “the kingdom of heaven was at hand.” The kingdom of which He spoke, however, was the kingdom which is within the believer’s heart in this dispensation. When He gave to his disciples the Lord’s model prayer, recorded in Matthew chapter 6, there was within that prayer to the Father a petition requesting, “Thy kingdom come,” Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.” While the believer has His reign and rule within the heart presently there is a ‘Kingdom to come’ that is not yet here.
At the present time the world is conscious of a master hand directing wickedness and evil in an unrelenting war against all that is good, right and true. Back of that hand is a personality called the devil that the Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 2 is, “the prince and power of the air.” The tragedy is that a great host of the world is doing his bidding and has become his servants of evil. In carnal delirium they cry for deliverance but they do not know the reason for their sickness nor the meaning of their cry. They are intellectual giants that have been able to build armaments that can destroy all mankind but are moral and spiritual infants who cannot control their usage. Someone writing about the atomic bomb declared that there are three sizes: the small size, the medium size, and then the “where is everybody?” size. Man, under the control of “the prince and power of the air,” has brought the human race to an abyss so deep and so dark that no mortal eye can plumb its awful depths.
Since the fall in the Garden of Eden the world has been an immense battlefield. When God made the solemn declaration in Genesis 3:15—“I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” Thus began the war of the ages that has continued to this very day. We are now witnessing what Jesus said in Luke 21: 25-28, “upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” –“When you see these things come to pass, know ye that the Kingdom of God is nigh at hand.” We are rapidly approaching the conflict of the ages that will make all past conflicts pale into insignificance. The ultimate battle is between Christ and Satan for the souls of men. Satan has many weapons in his arsenal and uses many designs and devices. Sometimes he comes as an angel of light to deceive and other times as a roaring lion to devour. In the garden he tempted our first parents by challenging the sovereignty of God and by denying the severity of God. He offered them knowledge and power and it reduced them to ignorance and poverty.
The kingdoms of this world are in disarray and turmoil. Even the religious world is suffering conflicting disturbances by renouncing many of the basic tenets of Christianity. Some of these being total depravity, the virgin birth, entire sanctification, future judgment and eternal punishment just to name a few. We are suffering from what a German pastor who lost his life for opposing Hitler called, ‘cheap grace.’ He said it was a style of grace whose teaching looks so good, promises so much, and demands so little. The shocking reality is that because of rebellion in the heart which refuses to receive the true Christ, according to God’s word, they will receive the Antichrist. All of this shall come about because scornful men “have made a covenant with death, and with hell are they at agreement.” Isaiah 28:15
As we watch the shadows lengthening on this day of mercy and grace and realize that God’s wrath will soon sweep down upon a sinful world. It is a great comfort to know that the coming King is enshrined within. For when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.” Isaiah 26:9 We then can, without fear or trepidation look confidently forward to the breaking of that “bright and cloudless morning” when all the saints “shall see the King in His beauty.” The Prince of Peace will return and we shall have a new age of the Kingdom of God. It will be the personal reign of the King of kings and Lord of lords. “Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”
